Sunday Scaries? Calm Your Nerves with This Simple Tip

Box Breathing

The weekends never feel long enough and I almost always get a case of the Sunday Scaries. Box breathing is a simple exercise you can do today when you feel those Sunday Scaries creeping in and you can take this with you into the week whenever you need a moment to regulate your nervous system. It’s a technique employed by everyone from Navy Seals to me!

How To: Box Breathing

  • Breath in for a count of four

  • Hold in for a count of four

  • Breath out for a count of four

  • Hold out for a count of four

  • Repeat 4 times

A little note: If you aren’t used to taking nice deep breaths, you may find this can make you a little light headed at first! So, consider doing this one sitting down if it’s new to you. The more you practice those deep belly breaths, the better it (and you) will feel.

Don’t forget that you can bring this technique anywhere: from a nice quiet corner of the house to a stressful work meeting.

Happy Breathing!
